Email Discussion Group
PoSH also has an email discussion group in which shape note singers connect on issues of common interest which are not necessarily related to singing. We do sometimes use this group to discuss singing-related topics and arrange carpools to singing events, etc., but that is not the main purpose. Posts can be made by any/all members and will be received by all members. Membership in this group must be approved, but posts are *not* otherwise moderated, except by each person's own good sense of decorum and appropriateness.

The purpose of the email group is to foster a stronger community sense by allowing current Sacred Harp singers to (a) connect on common interests outside of shape note singing and (b) deepen our collective/community commitment to the Sacred Harp tradition by sharing our thoughts, feelings and ideas about the experience.

To those ends, the email discussion group sees posts as varied as:
~  invitations to concerts, plays, parties, church socials and other singing groups in the Portland area,
~  notices of deaths in the families of our singers,
~  shared recipes for and from dinner-on-the-grounds,
~  requests for and offers of shared rides to and from singing events,
~  random "classifieds" about jobs, homes, cars, etc. (both offered and needed!),
~  discussion of the most important topics to be covered at a singing school,
~  reflections on the deeper meaning of various Convention ... um ... conventions, such as the Memorial Lesson.

Because the email group does not get a duplication of the information posted about our "official" events, it is strongly suggested members of the email discussion group also belong to the Google newsletter group, but the reverse is not necessary.
